Former Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole has been discharged and cleared of corruption by a Nigerian Judge. He was arrested by the EFCC in June, and has been on trial ever since. The speaker was allegded to have misappropriated billions of Naira in public funds. It was alledged that he secured N10bn (£40m, $65m) and shared it among top members in the Legislature as a payrise. A claim he clearly denied. However, he did say he secured the loan, but did’nt make any profit from it.
The Judge Sulaimon Belgore, however said the speaker did not commit any crime, but he did condemn the payrise.
